The Rose of Winslow Street by Elizabeth Camden

Synopsis:
In the small town of Colden, Massachusetts, Libby Sawyer leads a quiet, predictable life. Yet beneath the surface, she is haunted by a secret.

Newly arrived on American shores, Michael Dobrescu is far from predictable, and his arrival in Colden is anything but quiet. Michael's shocking claim to be the rightful owner of Libby's father's house immediately alienates him from the appalled citizens of Colden.

Despite her own outrage, Libby is unwittingly fascinated by this enigmatic man who seems equally intrigued by her. As the court's decision about the house looms and the layers of mystery surrounding Michael's past are unveiled, Libby's loyalties are tested in ways she never imagined.

When I first read the overview of this book I was intrigued and eager to read. The overall storyline is good but I felt there were too many characters vying for my attention. The character development was not strong. I wasn’t passionate about any of them. Each of these characters has something major they are dealing with and working through. The conclusion to the story has some characters finding a solution of sorts while others left me wondering how they dealt with or will deal with their situations. Story endings do not need to be neat and tidy however I like to see some sort of conclusion (that is addressed by the author) – good, bad or somewhere in between.

One of the themes I really liked was how we treat people who are different than us. It was dealt with honestly and with compassion. I was able to sit and reflect on this. I also really liked the theme of accepting yourself for who you are. Not perfect, flawed but loved by God all the time.
